2014 Focus… How bad is this? Are these codes under the TCM warranty?

I got these codes on my 2014 Focus. Can someone tell me if this might be covered under the TCM warranty? Any advice on what to do next would really help.

No, the codes are listed here. Take it to Ford and ask about the TCM warranty. If you’re under the 10-year or 100k mile mark, they might cover it. But honestly, it looks more like a clutch code to me.

You probably need a clutch replacement. I doubt the dealer will cover a TCM under warranty for this.

Any idea how much a clutch replacement would cost?

If you go to the dealer, expect $3k+. Independent shops using OEM parts might charge around $2k. If you do it yourself, it could be under $1k.

LuK makes the parts for Ford, and their clutch kit runs about $650. You’ll need additional parts too. Check out Big Ben’s Cars & Cycles on YouTube. He has a step-by-step guide for doing this without a lift. It’s pretty doable if you’re handy with cars. He also lists all the parts you need in his videos. Watch a few diagnosis videos to confirm it’s the clutch before diving in.

@Foster
Totally agree. Big Ben’s Cars & Cycles is a great resource. Lots of people fix these Focus clutches themselves now thanks to his videos. If his guides help you, consider supporting his channel!

The actuators often fail because of the bad TCM, but the actuators themselves aren’t directly covered. You might get lucky if you push the dealer to replace the TCM too, but they don’t have to. Even with a new actuator, it might last years or just a few weeks. It’s a gamble.

Your clutch fork is probably frozen or seized. You’ll need a full clutch job with forks and a throw-out bearing. I’ve seen this a lot. It’s an easy fix, but pricey. Expect $2,500 to $4,500 depending on where you go.

You’re looking at a complete clutch job, including replacing the clutch set and forks. Unfortunately, this isn’t covered by warranty.
