2016 SE sluggish and feels like it's falling apart

I have a base model 2016 sedan that I’ve always taken good care of, but lately, it feels like it’s about to fall apart. The transmission feels sluggish, and when I hit the gas, it barely moves. The check engine light is on for the purge valve, but I haven’t had the chance to replace it yet. It’s never been this bad before. Would I be better off just getting a new car?

I’ve got 11 Motorcraft purge valves. Let me know where you’re at, and I’ll give you one for free. They’re the updated ones, and they make a huge difference.

Wow, thank you so much! I’ll DM you for sure. I really appreciate this!

Run your VIN on Ford’s website to check if the purge valve is under recall. Might save you some money.

Great idea! I’ll do that, thank you!

Check your battery and alternator health. It might be something simple like a grounding issue. Clean all grounds and reset the TCM (transmission control module). Do the basics first before giving up on the car.

If it were a major transmission issue, you’d likely see codes for it or the transmission wouldn’t work at all. If it’s the TCM, you can find one on eBay for $200-300, which is way cheaper than paying $3K for a new transmission.

@Shan
Thank you!! I just replaced the battery, but I’ll test everything to be sure.

Replace the purge valve first. That might be causing the sluggish performance. Also, consider replacing the upper motor mount on the passenger side if you haven’t already. That can make a big difference.

@Kris
Thanks! That actually makes a lot of sense. I really appreciate the advice!
