2017 Ford Focus Owners… Questions About Reliability?

It’s not that bad to do yourself, but yeah, it’s a tight space. A ratchet wrench helps a lot.

Appreciate the tip!

I’ve got a 2015 Focus Titanium. Bought it in 2018 with 41K miles. Since then, I’ve had the TCM replaced, two clutch replacements, and one actuator.

After the last clutch job in May, it’s driving better than ever.

FYI: TCM is under warranty until 150K miles. There’s a recall for the clutches, but you can only get them replaced once per VIN. Also, unlimited TCM reprogramming is covered. If you can manually shift gears, do it in stop-and-go traffic—it helps a lot.

Other than the transmission, it’s been a solid car. I wish I had found a Titanium trim with a real manual, though. Those last forever.

One thing that helps—don’t let the car creep in gear too much, especially in traffic. If you’re stuck in bumper-to-bumper, it’s better to take it out of overdrive.

Do you mean put it in neutral?

@Blaire
No, I mean putting it in ‘S’ mode. That keeps it from staying in 6th gear (overdrive). Not all models have ‘S’ though.
