Anyone else deal with TCM failure on their 2017 Focus?

I don’t get how people pay so much for TCM or clutch repairs. My clutches were $1200, not $4k. I think Ford quotes high to discourage repairs and get these cars off the road. For a 2017, your options are:

  1. Trade it in.
  2. Fix it yourself (it’s not that hard).
  3. Hope for a total loss from an accident.
  4. Scrap it, but you won’t get much.

Pick one.

My frustration isn’t just the cost—it’s that Ford knows this is a faulty product but won’t take responsibility. My wife depends on her car for work, and we’re in no position to buy another one right now. Even $1200 is too much for us right now. I was hoping Ford would help, but clearly, they won’t.

Ford won’t budge. If a deer happens to run out in front of you, insurance will probably total it since they know it’s not worth much.

$1000 for a mirror and bodywork seems crazy. How bad was the damage?

They completely tore off the mirror and left scratches and dents on the side. The mirror alone costs $400, and this was the estimate from my insurance. Without filing a claim, I’d also have to pay for a rental car, so I didn’t have much choice.

Posts like this show up every day. Your choices are: let them repo it, crash it, or fix it. Sorry you ended up with the wrong car. The last reliable Focus was in 2011.
