Car vibrates like crazy—what’s wrong? Help!

My car (2015 hatch SE) vibrates a lot when I start it cold. Even when it’s hot, the vibration is still there but not as bad. What could be causing this? Thanks in advance, guys!

Sounds like motor mounts, especially the transmission mount on the driver’s side. Replace all three at the same time. It’s a cheap and easy DIY job.

If you’re replacing the mounts yourself, make sure you don’t squash the wiring near the transmission mount. Ask me how I know! :joy:

ONLY BUY OEM MOUNTS!

The original ones are hydraulic and help reduce vibrations. Aftermarket mounts are okay if you don’t mind some extra noise. I’ve dealt with this on my 2007 ZX3. It’s easy to DIY and super cheap. If I can do it, so can you!

@Levi
Got it! Thanks :muscle:t5: OEM is already on the way!

Motor mounts for sure. As a dealer, I’ve found that the passenger side mount is usually the culprit. I’ve replaced so many that I’ve got extra transmission mounts just sitting around because it’s rarely those.

@Hale
How much do you think it would cost to have a mechanic replace the mounts?

Definitely motor mounts. The passenger side one (right side when sitting in the car) is usually the issue. It’s held by just two bolts and can be wiggled out pretty easily. You’ll need a jack to support the engine—just enough to take the weight off the mount. Replace that one first, drive it, and see if the vibration stops. If not, replace the left transmission mount and the dogbone mount underneath if necessary.

Thanks, everyone! Looks like I’ll be replacing the motor mounts :muscle:t5:

Motor mounts for sure. Not hard to replace. Watch a few YouTube videos. Poke the passenger side mount with your finger—it’s probably so bad your finger will go right through it.

Spend the money and get quality mounts. You’ll thank yourself later.

Mine does this too in cold weather. Sounds like a helicopter about to take off, and the whole car shakes.

It’s probably the motor mounts. Super simple DIY job.

Could be a misfire, but I’d check the mounts first.

Why not just call 911 and ask them? What a dumb title.

Relax. The title was just to grab attention. Guarantee this car is their only vehicle, so it’s understandable to panic. My car is everything I’ve got too.

@Teal
Fair point. I completely forgot about people living in their cars. Pretty messed up that this is a reality for some in the ‘American dream.’ :upside_down_face:

How can it be the American dream if it’s a problem? :joy:

Chill, man. The title was just to get attention. Relax a little. Everything okay at home? We can talk if you need to.

@Morgan
So you’re basically just trolling?
