Here’s the issue: I’ve got a warning light that won’t go away on my dashboard. Sometimes the ESP light pops up randomly, even while idling, but it disappears after restarting the car. I’ve tried disconnecting the battery for an hour, but the problem is still there. Any advice?
Check the DPF sensor module. It’s usually near the back right seat. Try disconnecting it to see if the message goes away.

This is a petrol car, so I don’t think it has a DPF.

Ah, my bad. Maybe try disconnecting the battery again, wait 10-15 minutes, and reconnect?

Already did that. I left it disconnected for about an hour, but the warning is still there. The ESP light comes on randomly sometimes, even when I’m just idling, and then goes away after I restart.

Could be a loose connection somewhere.
Sounds like a short in the harness or loose battery connections.
This could be a faulty instrument cluster. It’s a common issue.

I usually send them to a specialist. From what I know, it’s usually just some solder connections that need fixing.
Check your ground connection. Ford sometimes grounds to painted metal instead of bare metal, and over time this can cause problems. Try sanding the paint off at the ground point, reattach, and cover it with dielectric grease to prevent corrosion.
If that doesn’t help, it could be broken solder joints. Some people say the TPS (throttle position sensor) signal goes through the IPC (instrument panel cluster), so you might want to look at the solder joints in the cluster as well.
