I keep telling myself it’s time for a new car, but my 2008 Focus keeps proving me wrong. It’s been reliable, affordable to maintain, and surprisingly easy to work on. It’s got over 200k miles now, and I’ve done all the maintenance myself since buying it in 2019 with 90k miles.
Curious to hear from other Focus owners—how long have you kept yours running? What’s your secret for keeping them in good shape? I’m genuinely impressed with how far I’ve gotten out of this car!

My 08 coupe is just at 216k. Only major repair so far was a wheel bearing. But she definitely needs motor mounts—it’s shaking a lot.
Even after replacing the mounts, it might still shake a bit. I replaced mine, and while it helped a lot, the shaking didn’t completely go away. It’s an easy job if you want to tackle it yourself.

One of my mounts is visibly cracked, so I’m hoping replacing it will make a big difference. If it’s anything like my old Fusion, it’ll still be noticeable but better.

Yeah, you’ll probably see a big improvement. If you’re handy, it’s not too bad of a DIY job—just support the engine, unbolt the old mount, and bolt in the new one.
Bought my 2009 SEL brand new, and it has around 90,000 miles now. Aside from cosmetic damage, it’s been solid—just oil changes, tires, and a couple of batteries.

Wow, what’s your maintenance schedule like? Do you do your own oil changes? What kind of oil and fuel do you use?
I bought it at 90k miles, and I’ve always used full synthetic oil—Castrol, Mobil 1, or Pennzoil Ultra. I change it every 7,500 miles. I drive 80 miles each way for work and just fill up at any gas station. I do all the maintenance and repairs myself.
