Actually, time affects the wet belt too, not just mileage. Parts degrade even if the car isn’t driven.

I do yearly oil changes during the MOT and haven’t had any issues at 120k miles. Did 100k on the first belt.

When they changed the belt, did you get a look at the old one? I’m thinking of pushing mine to 15 years with regular oil changes.
Don’t bother with it. Even with proper maintenance, this engine can fail. Plenty of stories online about well-maintained cars turning into scrap.

Well, it was the UK’s most popular engine for years, so of course, there are lots of issues reported.

True, but I worked in fleet management back when these came out. Even with proper servicing, the failure rates were high. We ended up switching to Vauxhall Astras, which were more reliable.
