Which part does controls the odometer? I’m Swapping clusters but want to keep the correct mileage.
I’m pretty sure you’ll need a special soldering station for this. My experience with electrical stuff is a bit outdated, but I remember those chips being sensitive to heat. We had a hard time desoldering them even with a good soldering station back then.
Instead, you might want to try using a tool to read and write the chip. This tool, which looks like a clamp, can read the data from the old chip and transfer it to the new one.
Figuring out which chip you need is another issue, and I’m not sure I can help with that. Maybe a dealership could assist? They likely have the right tools for the job.
I’m suck at reading electrical diagrams and I’ve never soldered before, even though I have a soldering gun. It seems like I just need to replace the EEPROM chip on the circuit, but I can’t find an 8-pin chip anywhere. Can anyone help me with this?
Also, the new cluster has double the mileage of my old one, and I want to keep my car’s correct mileage.
I really doubt if this is even close to being such a good idea, you would need a hot air station to be successful. But feel free to prove me wrong!
If you really want to do this you could google all the part numbers and hope that one says eeprom. Good luck though
