How to reset the bms

I just swapped out the battery on my 2015 Focus SE, but the battery light’s still on. I’ve tried the thing with hitting the high beams 5 times and the brakes 3 times, but nothing. Any tips?

Maybe leave the battery disconnected for like half an hour? I think I saw that somewhere. Did you check YouTube?

Yeah, I looked, but nothing specific for the SE model. Probably close enough though. I’ll try disconnecting the battery and see.

That won’t work on Focus models with BMS. You need to tell the car you put in a new battery.

I’ve been using FORScan for stuff like this on my Ford. You’ll need a cable or Bluetooth adapter to use it.

Actually, for BMS reset, you don’t even need FORScan.

Oh, so it’s one of those light-and-brake-pedal routines?

Turn the accessories on, engine off, lights on, hit high beam 5 times, brakes 3 times, then wait 20-30 seconds. The battery light should flash 3 times. Gotta do it quickly, all in one go.

Good to know. Thanks!

Could it be the alternator?

Nah, replaced that last summer.

Hmm, maybe it’s gone bad again. Might want to test it just in case.

YouTube’s got videos on this. That’s how I did mine for my 2015.

Wish I could remember the exact steps, lol. Otherwise I’d just tell you.
