To clarify, I currently have a Kia Forte 2010 with 167k miles, which I bought used off Facebook Marketplace. I’m not a car expert, but the Kia always seems to have issues. I saw a 2015 Ford Focus SE going for $4,000 with 87k miles. The Kia wasn’t well-maintained before me and had multiple owners. I don’t care about luxury; I just want a reliable car that can last. Looking for advice.
Does it have an automatic transmission? If so, no.
Only if it has a manual transmission with three pedals. The automatic (actually a dual-clutch automated manual) has many issues and drives poorly. It’s unreliable and feels like a beginner trying to learn a manual. Avoid unless it’s manual.
The automatic transmissions in these cars have been problematic for years. I’d avoid it unless it’s manual.
My father-in-law is a Ford guy and had a 2014 Focus SE. The electronic power steering system in these cars has a history of failures, causing loss of assist and even accidents. Ford didn’t issue a recall for the 2015 Focus, even though similar issues were covered on other models. Unless this car has had those systems replaced, I’d pass on it. Also, the wheel nuts are notoriously bad and expensive to replace. Otherwise, it’s a fun car, but proceed with caution.
