Long-term solution for transmission issues in 2013 Ford Focus

The long-term solution is to get rid of the car. Mine became undrivable at 120k miles. The shop wanted thousands to repair it, and I wasn’t willing to gamble on junky parts lasting long. I sold it and took a loss.

Clutches usually last 65k-100k miles, and the TCM can fail anytime. When the TCM goes, replace the actuators and clutch at the same time. To extend clutch life, drive it hard regularly. Or, get full insurance, hope for black ice, or trade it in.

I noticed my clutch slipping between 1st and 2nd gear too. To avoid it, I started treating the gas pedal like I would in a manual—accelerate hard, let off right before it shifts, and then accelerate again once it’s in 2nd.
