Need Advice About 2014 Manual?

I’m thinking about buying a 2014 Ford Focus SE with a manual transmission and 91k miles. The price is listed at $7,900, but I plan to negotiate it down to under $7,000. Is this a good deal? What should I check or ask about during the test drive?”

Absolutely would go for that

Nice!! I literally just got a 2016 manual se for $5100, but I’ll admit that felt like a crazy steal and it had 110k miles so yours seems like a pretty fair price tbh. But be sure to double check all the normal shit, including

  • Tires and brakes: Look at their condition.
  • Rust: Check under the car and inside the hatchback for any rust, especially if you live in a rust-prone area. Mine had rust on the hatchback due to a leaky moonroof.
  • Electronics: Test all the electronics. Hold skip + eject on the radio to run a speaker test sequence. Check the backup camera and make sure it works.
  • Oil leak: These engines often have a minor oil leak from the timing cover. You can use this as a bargaining point if you find it.
  • Test drive: Make sure to drive through all gears, test high RPMs, and do a hard emergency stop to check the brakes and ABS.

Also, get a pre-purchase inspection from a mechanic and run a Carfax if there are no service records. Let us know how it goes I love mine!

Manual transmission models of these vehicles are very reliable. I’d definitely go for it :ok_hand:

Are we talking USD? I’d try to get it a lot lower personally. $7000 USD for a 10 year old economy car is a little steep tbh.

It’s a unicorn of a car if it’s a 2.0/5 speed. With a little bit od proper maintenance and care the car could honestly last more than 300k miles

Personally, I own a 2.0 and 5 speed car. It’s cool, but it’s not $7000 super cool :sunglasses:

I also own a 2014 2.0 with the manual. I do expect it to make it to 200k + miles, but yeah, $7,000 that sounds like an overvaluation for me :face_with_thermometer:.

Yes, the price of the car in USD is higher than the KBB range (4765-6182). I think this is because the car is a manual transmission, and the automatic transmission models have a lot of problems. Does KBB consider the manual transmission when it sets the price range???

Honestly, I feel like “a different model of this car had a terrible issue that really sucked, however this one is just normal” is a really dumb idea to just hike the price past the estimate probably assuming a healthy car that works as it’s supposed to anyway…

Very much appreciated, that’ll be a good point to make at the dealership

Focuses aren’t worth much because the automatic versions were so bad. Coz the automatics were so poor, they also lowered the value of the manual versions. Honestly, if I had $7,000 to spend on a car, I wouldn’t choose a 2014 Focus. I’d look for something better, or at least a higher-end Titanium trim Focus.

Titanium with the 5 speed is very difficult to find. They had to be special ordered with one.

I understand. Paying $7,000 for an SE is pretty unreasonable. It’s a decent car, but it should be priced lower.

Finally something we both agree on :handshake:
