Turbo Update on My 2.0 - Testing and Upgrades Incoming

Just an update on my 2.0 turbo project! Here’s where I’m at - planning to test on the auto trans after swapping in a shift lever with selectshift and setting up the tuning. Ready to see what this can do!

Best of luck with this! Are you going to test on the auto trans or waiting for funds for the manual swap?

I’ll test and tune with the auto trans first, just need to swap the shift lever with selectshift and program it.

Love the effort, but turbocharging on a stock 12:1 compression motor has always felt risky. Plenty of folks end up blowing them up from this.

Most failures happen when people overboost or mismanage oil levels. The 2.0 TIVCT is solid with a cautious tune and low boost until all internals can handle more PSI.

@Koa
I get your point, but there’s a big difference between the GDI NA motor at 12:1 compression and the ST at 9.3:1. The high compression makes this setup pretty prone to detonation. If you’re not using E85, it could get tricky. From experience, I’d suggest pulling the pistons and adding ring gap to avoid cracked ring lands.

Boost on high compression can work; you just have to be super careful with your timing and tuning.

Excited to see someone actually do this! But it’s a different engine than the ST, and you’ll likely be capped at around 250 hp. Also, the computer might struggle with the MAF sensor and O2 placement.

Did you upgrade the bottom end? I’d be concerned about detonation since the engine might not handle much of it. That manual swap will help too, considering the DCT often struggles above 200whp.

Good luck!

Please tell me this is in a sedan!
