A dealership guy mentioned that the 2008-2010 Ford Focus models are the most reliable. What are your thoughts or experiences?
All Focus models are generally solid, except for US-spec MK3 models with the DCT transmissions. They’re the primary problem.
The 2008-2011 models are highly reliable. You rarely hear complaints about them, and lots of people report over 200k miles.
- 2012+ models with a manual transmission can easily last 200k miles with proper maintenance.
- 2005-2011 models are very reliable, but they’re older now and finding one with low mileage is tough.
- Avoid 2012+ models with automatic transmissions—they use DCT, which is unreliable and expensive to repair.
For US models, 2005-2011 are the most reliable. The 2012-2018 models are only good with a manual transmission.
None of them.
I have a 2009 with 335,000 miles, and it still runs great. The automatic transmission is solid, and I get 35 MPG.
The 08-11 Mk2 models with the 2.0 Duratec engine are incredibly reliable. They’re easy to work on, and parts are affordable. The main concerns are motor mounts and rusted rockers.
08-11 models and earlier ones are the best. I have an 05 with 170k miles and a 2010 with 26k miles. The newer you go, the worse the transmissions get.
I’d say the ST models are the most reliable.
