Why does Chevron gas make the car run smoother?

I’d say about 90% of the time, I fill my car with Costco 87 gas. Recently, I’ve been using Chevron (also 87), and my car runs smoother.

It seems to work better with Chevron compared to 76 or Costco. I usually fill up when the tank is about 10-15% full.

I did some research on this. Apparently, Chevron has the best gas, but I don’t have one nearby, or I’d go there all the time. Some car enthusiasts only use Chevron. However, Costco and Shell are also close in quality. Wawa, on the other hand, is considered one of the worst.

Look up “top tier fuel.” Most big brands are good, but BP isn’t recommended.

I don’t know why, but I’ve noticed the same thing. After I got my car, I did some informal testing with different gas brands. I think it has to do with the additives Chevron uses. A lot of people say it doesn’t matter, but I can really feel a difference between their regular and premium gas. Now, I just use 94 in my car. The price difference is small, just a few bucks per tank, and these cars don’t use a lot of gas anyway.

Can the base Focus use different octanes? Does it really make a difference, or is it just about the additives?

all i know is that techron is very well reviewed, but on the other hand, Costco does put more of detergent and additives in their gas. Of course, it’s not at techron’s level, but it’s still more than sufficient to be top-tier gas. Still, there’s a noticeable difference between the two in my experience

i figured that something to do with Techron. Costco also uses a lot of detergent.

It’s funny to think that just one or two fill-ups of Chevron with Techron would make a big difference in a car with almost 100k miles!

It’s one of the few additives that really work. Ford even recommends using it if your fuel gauge stops working or isn’t accurate, and I’ve found that after one or two tanks, it usually helps.
