Ohhh okay, thanks a lot for the info!
Is this engine a good choice? I’ve got two with 2.0L engines.
Edit: Just looked it up… it’s the 3-cylinder turbo engine…
No way, I’ve heard about the wet belt issue and the ‘eco boom’. No thanks!
@Brady
Make sure to check the oil pump and service records before buying.
@Brady
I had one, and around 86k miles, the wet belt started going bad. Pieces broke off and clogged the oil pickup tube, causing low oil pressure. I decided to sell it after that. I bought it when it had about 4k miles on it. Replacing the belt cost me $1400. The mechanic said it took 12 hours of labor, and they had to drop the engine to fix it.
@Brady
From what we see here in Europe with the 1L in the MK3 and what you guys get in America with the 2.0 Ti-VCT, the 2.0 engine is much more reliable.
I mean, if the 1L is properly maintained, it should be fine. But I’m not sure many people take care of them as they should. For the price you can get the 1L for, it seems like a steal, but the 2.0 engine is much tougher, especially when it comes to bad maintenance.
@Uma
The 2.0 engines rarely fail, mostly because most of them are paired with the DCT, which will usually go first.
This is great for anyone with a 5-speed manual because scrapyards are full of 2.0 engines in good condition but with dead transmissions.
Wait, only 3000?? I got a 2015 Ford Focus 1.5 TDCI for 6500 in Slovakia.

Wow, that’s a huge price difference!
But I’m guessing your car was in good shape…
This one I got has a bad clutch, so I’ll need to replace that…
But on the bright side, the car is a 2017 model and I always look for cars with issues so I can get a better deal.
And I always offer less! Haha.
@Brady
Got it now. Yeah, my car was in good condition. The only issue I had was with the driver’s seatbelt buckle, I had the airbag light on.
It looks like the 1.0 ecoboost engine.
Yep, it’s the 1L ecoboost. Do yourself a favor and get all the maintenance up to date.
