2012 Focus: battery not maintained during 7 month wait at dealer for TCM. Original key fobs are now unmatched. How to readd?

I have a 2012 Focus SEL. The transmission failed recently with under 60K miles. After a 7-month wait for the new TCM, it’s finally working fine.

Although, here is the twist…
The battery died during the wait, so I bought and installed a new one. Now, the original key fob I have isn’t recognized.

I’ve seen posts about reprogramming key fobs, but they all require having both original fobs. What should I do if even the original fobs aren’t working?

i’ve came across some horrible stories on how people had to wait for basically months just for a TCM. Mine just failed, and the dealership said they didn’t have it in stock and needed to order it. I got my car back in just 7 days.

How are some people waiting so long for TCMs?

Help me understand something here, when you say isn’t recognized, do you mean it won’t lock or unlock the car, or is it that you can’t start the car with it???

Fob does nothing. I have to insert key into ignition during the countdown or the alarm goes off.

You can try synchronizing the fob by putting the key in the ignition, turning it from the off position to the on position for a few seconds, and then back to off.

If that doesn’t work, the fobs will need to be reprogrammed with a diagnostic tool.

Also, be sure to check the batteries in the key to make sure thats not the issue.

thkx, but I’m looking for something that doesn’t require special equipment.

I waited 6months so not uncommon . I was told that the tcm was on backorder unless they had it in stock
