Anyone Know What This Part Under My Engine Is?

It looks like an aluminum guard below the engine, just under the spark plug area.

Ford Focus 1.0 ST Line 2017

I hear some noise coming from it, so I think it probably needs replacing.

That’s the exhaust manifold heat shield. Also, that’s not a spark plug, it’s an oxygen sensor, or lambda sensor.

It’s part of the exhaust manifold heat shield, upper and lower. Below that is the downpipe heat shield.

Thanks a lot for the info. That helps a lot!

Looks like your heat shield is broken… like mine was.

Can you explain a bit more about how it broke?

Is it the lower exhaust heat shield or the O2 sensor wire?

Just to clear things up, that’s the lambda probe, not a spark plug.

That looks like an O2 sensor.

Is it an eco boom?

Is it the 1.0 3L turbocharged engine?

“Eco boom” happens when people don’t change the oil regularly.

Wow, the rust on that part is crazy!
