Can I drive on a spare tire for a few days?

I have a 2013 Ford Focus and need to use the spare tire for a couple of days. It’s on the rear of the car and my job is only 8 minutes away, no freeways. Is it okay to drive like this for a few days?

You should be fine driving on it. Just make sure it’s on the right way and inflated properly. I had a similar situation and didn’t check the air pressure beforehand – it was underinflated, and that caused issues.

@Dallas
I already filled it to the right pressure, but by ‘correct way’ do you mean having the valve facing outwards?

Yep! I’ve seen a lot of people get it wrong, but it’s important to have it facing the right way.

@Dallas
Great, it’s on correctly. I wasn’t totally sure before, lol.

The pressure on a spare tire should usually be about double the PSI of a normal tire. It should say on the sidewall, but usually, it’s about 60 PSI.

@Morgan
That’s correct. The sidewall and the driver side door both show 60 PSI.

You should be fine. Just keep your speed under 45 mph.

Thanks for the advice!

You should have no issues, just avoid driving too fast.

Thanks, I appreciate it!

You can drive on it for a few days, even up to a week or two, but I’d recommend getting a new tire as soon as possible. I don’t like using donuts, so I bought a used wheel and tire for my grandmother’s Chevy Cruze. That way, if we get a flat, we have a regular tire to get by with.

You’ll be fine, just make sure you get two tires if you end up needing new ones. Don’t ever buy just one tire.

You’ll be okay for a while with short drives, but be careful – over time, that could damage the spare. So, take it easy with it.
