I’ve got a 2014 SE Flex Fuel (not a hatchback), and I’m wondering if that makes any difference when doing a manual swap. How much do you guys think it would cost?
It’ll probably cost more than it’s worth. It’s usually cheaper to sell your current car and buy the same model with a manual transmission. But it’s still possible to do the swap if you really want to.

I haven’t even paid it off yet.
@Oli
Wait, you haven’t paid off a 10-year-old Focus?

Yeah, either sell it or save up for an ST.
@Chen
What’s the difference between an SE and an ST?

The ST is the sport trim and only comes in a manual hatchback.

Well, that’s my next post! Haha. Can I turn an SE into an ST? How much more horsepower does the ST have over my SE?
@Oli
It wouldn’t be worth it. After swapping to manual and adding a turbo, you’d end up spending way more than just buying an ST. The horsepower gains wouldn’t be huge, and reliability might take a hit with an SE turbo kit.
Honestly, a manual swap might be cheaper than fixing your automatic when it needs a new TCM and clutch pack. The manual transmissions are hard to find since they didn’t make many, so good luck with sourcing one. There’s a thread on Focus Fanatics that lists all the parts you’ll need: https://www.focusfanatics.com/threads/manual-transmission-swap.814989/.
@Wren
Thanks for the info!
