Hey, everyone! My mum is looking for a new car, and I found a great deal on a 2016 Ford Focus. But she and my sister think the Focus is unreliable and prone to engine problems. How can I prove them wrong, or are they actually right about this car?
Honestly, they’re not wrong. Google ‘Ford Powershift transmission issues’ or ‘1.0 EcoBoost problems.’ You’ll see what I mean. That automatic transmission is notorious for problems, and the engine isn’t great either. Might be better to skip this one.
I wouldn’t bother trying to convince them. If it works out, great, but if it doesn’t, they’ll blame you. Learned my lesson to just stay out of these debates.
Does this one have the Powershift transmission? If so, your mum is right to avoid it. If it were a manual, I’d say go for it, but that automatic is bad news.
It’s just not worth it. Look for something like a Camry, Civic, Corolla, or Mazda. There are better options out there, especially if reliability is a concern.
I have a 2013 Focus ST that’s been great, but I wouldn’t touch a 1.0 EcoBoost with an automatic transmission. That’s asking for trouble.
If it’s the 1.0 EcoBoost with the Powershift transmission, that’s about as bad as it gets. Now, the 1.6 Duratec with a manual transmission? Those are solid and super reliable.
I own a Focus, and while it’s been ‘okay,’ there’s always something wrong with it. Sometimes it’s big, sometimes it’s small, but it’s always something. I wouldn’t recommend it.
Honestly, it’s not reliable. That engine and transmission combo is a disaster.
Yeah, I hate to say it, but it really isn’t.
Ford cars are just unreliable in general. I wouldn’t risk it.
It depends on the model year. My family has two older Focus cars, and they’ve been reliable with no major issues beyond regular maintenance. Just make sure to research the specific year and model.
