What’s the general opinion on the engines in these cars? I’ve heard the automatic transmission is bad, but the one I’m looking at has a manual with 110k miles. I’m looking for something with low ownership costs and good gas mileage for long trips as a second vehicle.
Manuals dont have same problems as automatic its indeed a great car. Auto has trans issues
2.0 Duratecs are 300k mile motors if you keep up on maintenance
The best engine in the newer Ford Focus cars is the 1.5 TDCI diesel. I wouldn’t recommend the petrol models because they have a bad reputation in the UK. If you want good mileage, go for the 1.5 diesel. I have a 2017 model, and I get about 52 mpg in the city and over 60 mpg on the motorway. Also, get the manual transmission stay away from the automatics, as they can be really problematic and costly.
Sounds like you’ve got a solid setup with your SE sedan! The 2.0L automatic is great for daily driving and long trips, especially with good maintenance. If someone’s looking for something sportier, the ST models are definitely the way to go. And yes, checking for any recalls using the VIN is really smart.
Glad to hear yours didn’t have any issues
Thanks, I plan to get the VIN and run a Carfax before I go drive it
That’s exactly what I did about a month ago when I transferred the title from my parents to my name.
