I have a 2016 Focus SE with a manual transmission. I just changed the transmission fluid and used 2 qt. The owner’s manual says it needs 1.9 quarts, but some older manuals suggest 2.1 qt. After filling, a small amount of fluid dripped out of the fill hole when I removed the hose, which is the method for checking the level.
Now, for the first time, I experienced a partial engagement in 4th gear that slipped into neutral. I just want to make sure that using 2 qt is okay and that the missing 0.1 quart won’t harm my trans.
I’m also wondering if the issue might just be due to shifting tech???
Fill it until the fluid starts coming out of the fill hole, tbh, that’s the correct method for earlier models. Missing that small amount won’t damage your transmission.
Using 2 quarts instead of 1.9 or 2.1 quarts is unlikely to cause harm. Modern transmissions are pretty forgiving of minor differences in fluid levels. However, if you’re still experiencing problems, it might be worth having the transmission checked. Sometimes new issues can be unrelated to the fluid change.
