My 2014 Focus with manual transmission and 170,000 miles is showing a P1450 code. Anyone know the approximate cost to repair this at a shop? Can I drive it another 30,000 miles without causing damage? Is it possible to reset the code so the check engine light goes off?
Most likely it’s the purge valve. Easy DIY fix and pretty cheap. I’m on my second one for my Focus. When it’s faulty, don’t panic if it struggles to start after filling up—eventually, it will start.

I found videos showing both valve replacement and full hose assembly replacement. Not sure which route to go.
P1450 is usually related to the evap system, which doesn’t typically affect engine health directly. If it’s harmless, you might just see a slight dip in gas mileage. A scan tool can reset it, but it may return within 20 miles. I’d suggest doing some research and maybe fixing it at home.
If you replace the purge valve, you don’t need to disassemble the airbox. Just loosen the hose clamp from the throttle body and lift the airbox out as one piece. A lot of videos overcomplicate it.
Find this part in your engine bay: Purge Valve on Amazon. It’s an easy swap with just a screwdriver. Expect around $250 if you go to a shop, though. Don’t wait too long, as it could end up damaging your catalytic converter eventually.
I have a 2014 as well. Mine needed a new canister purge valve, which cost about $40 on Amazon and took under 10 minutes to install. Get the one with hoses and clamps pre-installed; it makes things much easier.
Keep it running while filling up on gas, or you might have a hard time restarting. Resetting the code can work for passing emissions. Driving with it on is possible, but you’ll burn more fuel.

Forgot to mention—my issue was the purge valve too.
Sounds like the purge valve. Replacing it isn’t difficult; hardest part is disconnecting the plastic clip on one end. Most shops will charge a couple hours labor plus about $150 for the part.
Long shot, but I had the same code on my 2012 Focus and it turned out to be a hole in the gas tank. It’s apparently common on these cars. I was able to drive it without major issues, though I did experience starting trouble after filling up. Keeping on the gas for a few minutes helped until I could drive normally.
