I’ve owned the Ford Focus MK4 for nearly a year and have clocked 11k miles on it. It’s been an amazing car with fantastic handling and plenty of grip in corners!
I know the 1.0L EcoBoost engine has a bad reputation, but I’ve been diligent about doing full oil and filter changes every 5k miles with the correct high-grade oil.
The only issue I’ve encountered is with the reverse camera, which works only about 50% of the time and needs to be replaced under warranty.
Ford discontinuing the Focus (and the Fiesta) is a terrible decision. Instead, they offer them as crossovers, which have worse handling, looks, and fuel consumption.
And don’t even get me started on the Mondeo—it was such a practical car, and now it’s gone too.
The Focus is an amazing family car—as long as you only keep it for a year or two. Unfortunately, the engine’s poor design means it won’t last long-term.

It’s a Ford—don’t worry, the rest of the car won’t last either.
The Focus ST is such an underrated car. Everyone always talks about the Civic Type R, Golf GTI, i30N, and Megane RS, but the ST deserves more recognition.
I’ve owned a Focus for a couple of years now, and it drives so much better than most modern cars. Compared to something like the new Citroën C4, the Focus offers far more interior space, better visibility, and superior ride control. It’s a shame the ‘EcoBoom’ stigma overshadows how good the car really is.
Fellow MK4 Vignale owner here—what a car! It’s fantastic to drive, and I actually look forward to winter mornings with all the heated features. So good!

Agreed! The climate control is amazing, no matter the weather.

I almost bought one but was put off by reports of electrical issues on Honest John. Has anyone experienced this?
That’s a fair concern. My rear camera has failed, and sometimes my parking sensor thinks I’m about to hit something even when I’m not. Still, it’s an amazing car to drive.
I’ve been underwhelmed by my MK4 Focus (Titanium X). The interior feels cheap, the seats are uncomfortable for long drives, and it’s noisy on the motorway. I’m trading it in for a Mazda3, which feels more premium and refined.
@Oli
Have you tried the Vignale trim? It has real leather, amazing build quality, and the quietest cabin I’ve ever experienced—even at motorway speeds.
