This guide claims to list car models and years to avoid. Thoughts?
Looks like they’re mostly talking about base models.
Yeah, this isn’t detailed enough. Everyone knows ST models are solid. My friend had a Focus with the automatic though… worst transmission I’ve ever experienced.

A friend of mine had a Fiesta with an auto too, and it completely fell apart by 40k miles.

That’s not surprising. Those cars are junk. The Fiesta’s safety ratings are also terrible, with one of the highest crash death rates. The ST version is a different story though—better built and usually owned by people who take care of them.

Before my ST, I had an SE model. The automatic was so bad. It would hesitate a lot when starting from a stop, like it was about to stall.

My ex-wife and I tried trading her Focus for an FR-S. The car was practically new, but I had to explain to the Scion dealer, ‘Yeah, it feels like the transmission is slipping, but according to Ford, that’s totally normal.’
I had an automatic Focus, and it was the worst. Switched to an ST this summer, and it’s been amazing!
Do Jaguars have their own list of issues?
The ST and RS aren’t part of this recall issue. We don’t have the auto transmission problems

Agreed. They clearly favor Toyota. You don’t see any Toyotas on this list, but even Tacomas and Tundras have had big problems. And those CVT transmissions in Camrys and Corollas? Garbage.
The list is bad because it doesn’t consider sales numbers or the fact that 25% of people don’t maintain their cars. Focus issues are usually with the base model and the automatic transmission.
I’ve had a 2014 ST since new and no real problems, except water dripping into the boot.

Funny you bring that up. 2014s had a recall for the hatch not latching properly.
