My cousin's 2012 SE was left with the window down for months…

Found it abandoned like this. Mold everywhere and the drivetrain is worn out. Not looking good…

Where are you located? I’d definitely be interested in buying some parts off it.

Not sure exactly which junkyard it’s at now, but I’m in Maryland.

Ah, thanks! I’m on the complete opposite coast :sob:

@Riley
Yeah, that’s a long trip, unfortunately!

That’s a bummer. I’d be tempted to bring it back to life if it was running… Manuals avoid so many issues on these. Let me know if you find out which yard it’s in. I might consider grabbing the whole thing.

Honestly, it looks worse than it is. Mold’s not too bad if you handle it right… just vacuum up the mold, spray it down, and use a rented extractor to clean it out. Let it dry in the sun for a day. Might not get back to showroom quality, but could be a solid daily driver again.

That’s assuming none of the electronics got damaged by the water.

@Zara
The real issue is the drivetrain… it’s seen better days. Anything can be fixed, but sometimes it’s just not worth the effort.

Is that an ST badge on a non-ST?

Nope, it’s actually a 2018 ST1.

Phew, had me worried! Looks like something’s missing though… I feel like I should see the spoiler from this angle.

I had my passenger window partly down during Hurricane Milton here in Tampa Bay. The car floor was soaked, and the smell of mildew hung around for days.

Ouch, that’s rough.

Honestly, I think it still has potential… drop in a new engine, swap it to manual, replace the interior… could be a fun project car if you can get it cheap enough. Sure, it might cost more than a working one, but it’d be a great learning experience for a newbie. And hey, the body looks decent!

@Aza
It’s already a manual, actually! But it’s 12 years old and the front suspension needs a full rebuild. It was a solid car, but my cousin was already planning to part with it soon. We’re still a ‘Focus Family’ though—I’ve got my ST, and my brother’s got an RS.

@Rio
Got it! Yeah, sounds like it’d be fun to mess around with or even just see how far it could go as a beater car… jump it over railroad tracks or something for laughs. But yeah, might be too sentimental to do that.

@Rio
By the way, if you part it out, let me know what you’d want for the headlights. They look pretty decent in the pic.

The junkyard took the whole car for $200. I don’t know exactly where, but it’s somewhere in Maryland. The headlights were actually super cracked, if I remember right.

@Rio
Alright, thanks anyway. Have a good one, man!

Thanks, you too! If I find out where it went, I might visit… it was the first manual car I ever rode in, so it’s got some memories attached.
