Why does owning a Mk3 feel like a rollercoaster of emotions?

Anyone else feel the struggle? One day you love it, the next day it’s falling apart… the joys of owning a Mk3, right?

Is this too high-tech for my manual transmission brain to handle?

I think it’s more about the effort it takes to keep an older car running smoothly.

What’s that sound now?

sigh Time to grab the 18mm socket… again.

Or is it the 15? Or the 10? Oh wait, this one’s a 9 for no reason at all… and what on earth is an E12?!

Better get out your torx bit set too… and hope that rusted bolt you can’t even see is torx or hex.

Plus you’ll need the 6mm, 7mm, and 8mm just to remove the MAF sensor.

Still love that ‘best car ever’ phase though.

11 years strong over here!

My wife actually sent me a meme last night… totally sums up my ‘01 Focus SE Wagon lol.

If I could have anything, it’d be a Mk3 ST wagon. One can dream.

So true. I’ve basically decided I’m never selling it… even if it dies on me one day, I’ll just buy something else to get around while I work on it. I’ve put in too much time and effort, and no one will appreciate it like I do.

My Mk3 ST randomly turns on the engine fan, the engine temp hits over 120, and I get an engine light for half a second… but no codes show up.

120? Yikes.

Gotta be in Celsius, right?

@Brett
I’d assume so. Still strange, especially on a US-made car to see Celsius for engine temp.

I used to have a 2006 Focus… best car ever. Then I went and ‘upgraded’ to a 2014 Fusion. Honestly, this applies to the Fusion too.

I’d still be driving my ‘05 Focus if I’d just fixed the AC… never gave me a single engine problem.

This forum has made me so paranoid about my car… 2013 Mk3 with the 1.0 EcoBoost. No issues so far, but still nervous.

I haven’t seen any real issues myself either, but that doesn’t stop me from holding my breath every time I start it.

Laughs in Mk2 ownership
